The purpose this method statement is to define the steps for installation of Fire Alarm System.
By following this procedure installation contractor shall ensure that the job execution complies with the project requirements and serves the intended function to the satisfaction of the client.
Method Statement covers complete process from material receiving to installation and approval of the fire alarm system.
Overall project manager is responsible for the implementation of this method of statement in coordination with his project team.
TOOLS / EQUIPMENT
Before start of work contractor shall make sure below tools and equipment is available:
Necessary lifting arrangement in line with the Manufacturer’s, recommendations and as required at site for fire alarm panel
Portable hand tools
Spirit Level / Level Threads
Cable Stripper
Digital multimeter
Screw Driver and connector
Drill Machine
MATERIAL HANDLING & STORAGE
Fire Alarm System material shall be in line with the approved material submittals, approved drawings, project specifications and applicable rules, regulations and standards.
On receipt of the fire alarm system material & accessories at site, necessary precautions shall be taken for unloading, shifting & storage, as follows:
All material for the fire alarm system, reaching to site shall be identified as per package list.
Electrical Engineer has to ensure that the material is as per approved specification / submittal and as per the requirements of shop drawing. Any deviation if noticed, shall be notified and reported for further action to supplier.
Material shall be stored in a covered ventilated space at all the time.
All the Fire Alarm System Outstations, Modules & Control Panels etc. shall be stored in an air conditioned place.
Before site installation works engineer or supervisor shall make sure that the system components / accessories are not having any signs of damage or deformity, this will be checked at the stage of issuing the material form site stores.
Material found not suitable for site use will be removed from site immediately.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
Prior to start the installation, refer the approved shop drawings and coordination drawing of latest revision related to the area of installation and ensure that the material available at site is as per approved material submittals and drawings.
All shop drawings, riser diagram must be approved by supplier including the installation methods and details. All other related documents like latest approved shop drawings and schematic diagrams cable schedules etc. shall be available with installation team.
Ensure that work area is ready and safe to start the installation of fire alarm system.
Make sure the availability of other accessories like lugs, glands, ferrules and identification tags.
Also verify that the installation of fire alarm system and accessories is carried out in accordance with manufacturers installation recommendations.
Containment System should be offered for consultant inspection prior to cabling works.
25 mm PVC conduiting for concealed installation shall be used which should be already available and approved.
FP200 wires are pulled in concealed PVC conduits and for plant rooms and roof it is pulled in GI conduits.
In all the open areas like above false ceiling FP200 wire is installed using clips.
Approved containment system for Fire Alarm system is used wherever required and also near the Fire Alarm control panels.
Correct type of back boxes for all the outstations should be installed as per approved shop drawings / material submittals.
Mounting heights for the junction boxes should be verified with approved shop drawings.
The required amount of cable should be transferred from Stores to Site access point by pick-up and to the particular floor with wheelbarrow as required to the work place.
Correct size and type of cable should be identified and cut to the required length.
Proper identifications to be provided for loop in / loop out of Fire Alarm cables.
The earth cables to all the outstations to be properly terminated with earth sleeve in the appropriate terminal in order to avoid any earth fault in the loop.
Junction boxes and back boxes to the outstations such as smoke detectors, manual call points and modules should be installed as per the approved shop drawings.
Installation of system outstation should be offered for QC Verification.
Adequate additional cable lengths to be provided during cabling for the detectors, which are coming in False ceiling.
All the cables to be terminated in the outstations using properly sized screw driver and as per the identifications provided in the cables.
No joints in the cable is allowed between two outstations.
All the Fire Alarm control Panels such as Main Control Panels, Mimic Panels, Repeater Panels should be installed as per approved shop drawing.
Smoke detectors after installation shall be protected/covered before handing over of the area, in order to avoid any physical damages / accumulation of dust within the Smoke Detectors.
All cables to be properly identified in Fire Alarm control panel before termination.
Installation of sensors to be as per the approved drawings / Manufacturer’s recommendations.
Installation of duct detectors to be as shown in the approved shop drawings.
Installation of Fire Alarm System shall be offered for consultant inspection and approval.
